During the summer between my sophomore and junior years of high school, I applied and was accepted to travel around the United States for 50 days with a small group of my classmates and a few of our high school teachers. We camped out almost every night, drove cross-country in two mini-school buses, visited national parks and major cities, and had a wonderful time. Through those 50 days, I caught the travel bug (and mono - including an ER visit in San Antonio, TX), and my life was enriched and changed forever.
Mr. Peter Troy, history teacher, was the Head Moderator of the trip. He was a warm, compassionate, knowledgeable man who guided us across the states and stretched our hearts and minds. He became a trusted mentor during my last two years of high school. When I decided to attend Franklin College Switzerland, he was the only teacher who did not say, "Are you sure?" Instead, he gave his full blessing and a big grin. When I later transferred to The Catholic University of America, he (an alumnus) signed my papers to help me receive a scholarship.
