This blog was (anti-)inspired by a quote from C.S. Lewis' The Screwtape Letters: All is summed up in the prayer which a young female human is said to have uttered recently: "O God, make me a normal twentieth century girl!" Thanks to our labours, this will mean increasingly, "Make me a minx, a moron, and a parasite."

1. Last weekend was very restful. My boyfriend and I went to confession on Saturday (clean souls, woo!), made a meatloaf dinner together for my family, took naps, read, and bummed around.
2. Do you have signs that you're extremely worried? I do. I get this annoying tick in my left eye, and I have disturbing dreams. This morning I woke up to puffy eyes and mascara smeared all over my fingers. I have an idea or two about what's worrying me, so please say a few prayers for my intention! Thanks so much.
3. What are you reading? I just finished Liz Curtis Higgs' Here Burns My Candle, a Scottish Christian tale set in 18th century. This book is a retelling of the story of Ruth, and it was good, but not as magnificent as Higgs' Lowland of Scotland trilogy, which retells the story of Jacob, Leah, and Rachel!
4. I do find it funny that people often quote, "Where you go I will go, and where you stay I will stay. Your people will be my people and your God my God" (Ruth 1:16) for weddings. Ruth said that to her mother-in-law!
5. If you live in the NYC-metro area, please Like the new page for the Diocese of Rockville Centre's Faith on Tap series! Check it out! http://www.facebook.com/DRVCFaithOnTap The next event is on Monday and will cover Catholic social teaching and the upcoming election! Sure to be very informative!
6. My little sister has settled in nicely at The Catholic University of America. She called me with a surprise this week - her academic adviser is a classmate of mine! What a small Catholic world :D
7. Today is the last day of summer. Goodbye, sweet season! I am looking forward to wearing boots again but the temperature is a little too cold for my liking already.
Have a wonderful weekend!

#3 I've just started "Jesus of Nazareth" by Pope Benedict.
ReplyDeleteI'll admit that I was a little nervous about this one and left it until towards the end of my 2012 Reading List.
The only other thing of Pope Benedict's that I had read was "Spe Salvi" which was, quite frankly, an awful lot of work to get through. But with this book, I have to say, I've been pleasantly surprised at how readable it is :-)
I usually get a sick feeling in my stomach when I'm worried. And a headache often follows. I actually just wrote about how worrying often plagues me. I'll certainly say a prayer for your intention.
ReplyDeleteI am very sad to see summer go, but I am happy to welcome fall!
Waking up in tears and sobs is the WORST feeling! I think what makes it worse for me is that I feel so alone during those times.
ReplyDeleteI'm reading Who Really Cares right now, which is a book about charity in America and is based on all of these different studies. It's very interesting to see who tends to give the most charitably, especially in our current political climate!
Also, I think you should know that your guest post has popped into the top 10 of my blog :) Means you're a rockstar!
re: #4 YES! That always gets to me.
ReplyDeleteand re #1: how awesome is confession and meatloaf? Comfort for body and soul :)
Hi Trista, it's Alexandra, from Faith On Tap the other night :) Heyy! I love your blog! I found you on Facebook but I can't friend you for some reason :( I still haven't figured out how to make myself public either, but I'm working on it. I sent you an email! Yay! Hope to see you again soon xox
