I thought I'd share these links on the Marquette Method of Natural Family Planning!

There is no one method for Natural Family Planning, so it's great to spread the news about different options.
*in my experience. Neither my Diocese nor my local Natural Family Planning center make any mention of this method.
It IS the least mentioned. And honestly, I don't understand the bias...when we were STM users, inquiries about the Marquette method were "poo-pooed" because of the cost of the monitor, yada yada. Now that we use it, I would never go back. I love it and honestly, the science behind using the monitor to help identify fertile days and avoiding based on that made me SO MUCh more comfortable with my own observations otherweise. Thanks for posting about this!!!
ReplyDeleteI loosely charted STM for about a year and a 1/2, and once I became engaged, switched to Marquette. I love it, too! Thank you so much for sharing your experience with it; you really helped solidify which method was right for me!
DeleteI hope you don't mind me giving you an additional link. Here is the main website about Marquette: http://nfp.marquette.edu/ If you look down the left column, there is a free PDF of the user manual. The method does have a mucus-only version too, so that is an option instead of paying for the monitor. The mucus-only rules are actually almost the same as Weschler's mucus-related rules in TCOYF.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing this! I have found that our diocese is definitely lacking in the NFP department. Hopefully with some encouragement that people do actually use it, they might increase their awareness of different methods.
ReplyDelete"There is no one method for Natural Family Planning." I completely agree! Unfortunately, certain NFP instructors present their preferred method of NFP as the only effective one. One NFP instructor discouraged me from trying different methods, saying that they would all give me the same data (namely, that I was fertile nearly every day of my cycle -- a biological impossibility!). I switched to using a fertility monitor on my own, since I never heard of the Marquette method. I have had much more success with the monitor than with temperature or mucus charting. Thanks so much for spreading this news!
