This blog was (anti-)inspired by a quote from C.S. Lewis' The Screwtape Letters: All is summed up in the prayer which a young female human is said to have uttered recently: "O God, make me a normal twentieth century girl!" Thanks to our labours, this will mean increasingly, "Make me a minx, a moron, and a parasite."

#7QT: Short Lil Snippets
1. This week I tried to get into healthy eating/working out/wedding prep mode. I switched up some of my usual lunches for salads, worked out twice (!!), and tried to get a little more sleep. I've been having random bouts of insomnia and have started taking melatonin an hour before bedtime. It seems to be helping!
2. Emily introduced me to the Abs by April challenge. It involves holding a plank for as long as you can each day and then doing the other ab challenges a few times per week. I'm a week behind (only week 1), so next week I'm going to jump right into week 3.
3. My plank times were:
Monday - 1:45
Tuesday - 2:07
Wednesday - 1:47
Thursday - 2:01
Friday - TBD
4. Please check out this delightful video of Julie smashing cake in her groom's face.
5. Have you missed the Bright Maidens? We've missed blogging with you! Next Wednesday, February 6th we're going to host a Lenten prep link up. What are your ideas for growing closer to the Lord during Lent? We want to know!
6. Ok, tell me the truth - what is the point of engagement photos? If our wedding is less than 4 months away, should we still take them? We've already sent out our Save the Dates, and our wedding photography package doesn't include them. What would the purpose of them be?
7. I tweeted and Facebooked this post all over the place but I want to share it again. Amanda writes beautifully about the Catholic Single state:
"I get troubled about the single life. My friends get troubled about the single life. When will our knight in shining armor appear? So often we get stuck praying, “Father, save me from this hour! This single life is lonely and sad and I am tired of watching all of my friends get married and have babies. When will it be my turn?”...It is in those moments of feeling troubled about the single life that I can relate to Jesus’ prayer, “Father, save me from this hour!” But it is also in that troubled hour that I completely forget about the rest of Jesus’ prayer, “But it was for this purpose that I came to this hour.”
Have a wonderful weekend!

Way to go on those planks girl! And we only took engagement pictures because they were included, I don't think we would've otherwise!
ReplyDeletehmm, I should try some planks. I need to do something to strengthen my abs...they are a shoddy mess with all these pregnancies, LOL
ReplyDeleteWe didn't do engagement photos. but then, we didn't do a huge expensive wedding or anything either. we just got married, had sandwiches and cake and punch afterward and visited for a few hours. Wedding at 1:00, reception over by 4:30, dinner together at a fave Mexican restaurant at 8:00 and in bed snoozing, we were so tired!! haha. we were so boring, I guess. :)
My fiance and I just took them. It was fun! We aren't using them for save the dates though. But the main reason we did them is because my fiance's sister offered to do them as she started her photography business (for free). Maybe you can find a friend to take them for cheaper/free? A few friends from college did that. I'm going to make an album/scrapbook with them for the guestbook. And maybe blow some up for the reception. Best wishes for your last few months!!
ReplyDeleteKeep on at those planks! My goal is to be able to do 15 minutes by the end of the year - oorah!
ReplyDeleteWOW on the planks! Abs is my least strong area; once I'm passed feeling tired and ill, I may try to strengthen them. (Not that they will show! ;) Ha!)
ReplyDeleteEngagement pictures are really fun to have of just the two of you - but honestly: if you have a friend or family member who takes pictures, I would recommend that. I loved the pictures my sister took more than the ones our photographer took. Especially if you're on a budget, it is just nice to have a few "you two" pictures. That being said, no need to have a gazillion! I bet your mom could even be your photographer - and maybe borrow a nice camera from someone??
I second (well, technically, third or fourth) asking someone to do engagement pictures for you! Mine were part of my wedding photography package, but even when yours aren't, I say go for it. We had a lot of fun with ours! I think a lot of towns have networks for finding amateur photogs looking to build a portfolio...maybe you could ask one of them? To me, it just seems a little less awkward to do them with a stranger than, say, a family member, if you guys are going to be stealing kisses and the like =)
